My Best Friend's Fall Weekend in Colorado Springs

To be transparent, this wasn't just any fall weekend in Colorado Springs. This was my daughter's birthday weekend, and I had my best friend in town to help celebrate it. The best thing about a visit from Georgia, is that she loves to eat all the same trash I do, and she doesn't mind catching up on the latest crime shows on Netflix.
With the way the world is right now, and with a husband away for work, I chose not to do a birthday party this year for Amelia. But that didn't mean I could give up over-analyzing the cupcakes and "2" decor. I had this grand idea to make cupcakes with strawberry frosting from scratch for Amelia's big candle moment, and boy did those crash and burn.
Before getting too deep into the process I told Georgia, "I hope these turn out good," and she replied, "they probably won't." And I really love her for that because she wasn't wrong. Do you remember that pink strawberry flavored fluoride the dental hygienist would put in your mouth at the end of a cleaning and say "don't swallow"? And you'd sit there for 10 minutes wanting more than anything to swallow but knowing you would die instantly from fluoride overdose? Yeah, that's exactly how the frosting tasted.
So I pulled out my backup plan cake mix box and whipped up some Funfetti cupcakes. They didn't disappoint.
On Amelia's birthday, we decided to hit up a local pumpkin patch. It was one I'd never visited, and with her recent obsession with pumpkins, I knew Amelia would have a blast. We rolled up to Colorado Pumpkin Patch and very quickly realized it would be a short visit. A miniature 24 hour cold front moved in at that exact hour and we were very poorly dressed for the temperature. Amelia rode the slides, petted the cow and miniature horse, bounced on the bouncy thing, and loudly announced that the "pumpkins are dirty" before refusing to stand near one for a photo. We rolled out and headed to Culver's for lunch.
In short; we shopped til we dropped, we ate until we had heartburn, we partied during Mia's nap time like it was 1999 (by watching Veronica Mars and Cold Case murder shows), and most of all we laughed together like we were 16 again. Enjoy these iPhone pics from the weekend!

Enjoy this special clip of my dare devil baby putting the candle fire out with her hand. 😱
