To celebrate her daughter's first birthday, my friend Amber deiced to do a smash cake photo session in the mountains. I was totally up for the adventure and was excited for the change of scenery. But I'm not going to lie, my body is still sore as I write this.
The hike to the photo location was about half a mile from the car; so we lugged two large balloons, three kiddos (two strapped to their mama), a cake, a teepee, a blanket, lots of water, snacks, and a camera bag to our location. After every detail was in place, we set the birthday babe in front of her gorgeous applesauce cake with cream cheese frosting and let the magic begin.
Hallie Mae was a little confused and overwhelmed so we definitely got some crying pics. 😅 But that's motherhood, am I right? Sometimes we expect these little ones to be smiley whenever the camera comes out, but they remind us real quick that that isn't the case. Regardless, we were able to capture some candid real life moments and that's all that truly matters.
Once we finished the photos we continued the rest of the hike to the top of Raspberry Mountain. If you know me...you know how outdoorsy I am not. Growing up in Florida, we never loaded up on a Saturday and hiked through the muggy swamp lands around us. The closest thing to a hike was our occasional trip to Aldermans Ford park for a bike ride. And let me just tell you, ya girl is a mosquito magnet.
So let's just say I started the hike with my 28 lb. toddler strapped to my back and ended it with her strapped to someone else's back. (Thanks Jared.) The views were stunning, the weather was perfect, and the hike was my most challenging hike yet. I can't wait to never go back ever again.😆
So without further ado, check out these precious smash cake photos:
